Why Is This A Thing?

Why Is This A Thing?

Why do blogs exist? What is the point of it? Why dont people just tweet it out or post it on facebook and if your that out of the group put it on myspace! Worst of all, why does my English class have to blog? I'm not going to lie i think its pretty pointless. All of my blogs are rants and some of them don't even apply to me but I write about it just so it counts as writing a blog! Its not like any of us are going to blog after this or use this account after were not forced to. I just find blogs pretty pointless, especially the ones that our English class writes about. No offense to anyone but its not like anyone else other then the people in our school will even look at it! It feels like a complete waste of time (no offense Mrs. Le). I just don't see the point of learning to do something that none of us will use in the future.

  1. Peter, I truly appreciate your honesty. I'm sorry that you find find blogging pointless. The goal isn't to simply write because you are forced to. The goals are numerous: practice putting forth an argument and defending it; the freedom to write about WHAT you deem important; get into conversations with other people; explore ideas that you think about and reflect on those ideas. Blogging is simply a method to practice communication skills.

I think, had you taken blogging seriously, you would realize that while you might not blog in the future, skills that you will apply in life are practiced via this medium.

Sometimes things seem pointless (reading Macbeth, writing an analysis of symbols in The Rez Sisters), but there is value in doing them. You practice the skills of critical thinking, communicating your ideas clearly, and using evidence to support your ideas. These are all things that you do on an almost daily basis.

  2. I agree with you peter, when this english class is over i will probably never blog on. I see exactly why Mrs.Le makes us to do it, but it bores me, I would rather have verbal discussions on our topics. great blog.
